![]() Maybe you don't understand the concept of 'dodging'? Or how little armor DDs actually have? The way DDs so easily and quickly lose such vital equipment is stunningly unrealistic. Modern ships (the three I served on) even have a third emergency power supply. For example, the steering gear typically has two pumps and both pumps have at least two if not three power supplies with power seeking ABTs so that if the main power is lost it will automatically switch to the second source. They had/have redundancies built in to them to prevent such easy losses. Combat ships simple did NOT suffer such damage so easily, especially to vital components. In almost every battle it seems as though the first hit or two knocks out the engines or steering. ![]() Nothing short of a direct hit to the steering gear room in the stern or to the rudder should disable a combat ships steering. A combat ship should NEVER lose either because of a hit to the bow or superstructure. If anyone so much as just spits on a DD it loses its engines or steering, REGARDLESS of where it takes a hit. ![]() The ridiculously easy damage DDs take to their engines and steering is profoundly broken.
